What do oil rigs and corkscrews have in common? Well, an oil drilling engineer by the name of Herbert Allen invented what many consider to be the finest corkscrew in the world. The result of a challenge by his wife who had just had an especially frustrating ordeal trying to open a bottle of wine, the Screwpull's patented Teflon coated helical screw bores easily through the cork while simultaneously lifting the cork from the bottle. Remarkably, even fragile crumbly corks are not damaged, thanks to the Teflon coating.

 "Big disappointment" 2009-06-01
By John R. Osborne (Mississippi)
My Rabbit worked like a charm for about 12 bottles of wine. Then it started giving me problems on the retracting stroke. The warranty is a sham - it practically costs you more to ship it back than it costs to buy a new one - I'm just going to buy another brand and let the rabbit hop its way to the trash.

"Worked great - until it broke!" 2009-01-03
By CafeDelSol (Idaho)
My Rabbit worked like a charm for about a case of wine. Then it started giving me problems on the retracting stroke. The corkscrew just spun out instead of pulling the cork. After a few additional tries it would work sporadically. After a few more bottles the handle broke, rendering the whole thing useless. After reading all the problems customers are having with this company's "customer service" I have decided to throw this thing in the garbage where it belongs and go back to my old lever style screw-and-pull cork remover - 10 years and it still works fine!

"Defective product, poor warrantee satisfaction" 2008-07-15
By skangirl (upstate ny)
I'd give zero stars if it was an option. Don't waste your time on this company.

My first Rabbit had a plastic handle. When it broke after several years of use, I replaced it with a metal handle Rabbit because it had 10-year warrantee. (I think the first one had a 2-year warrantee.)

The new Rabbit malfunctioned. A mission-critical piece of rubber tore, making the Rabbit useless. I sent the Rabbit to Metrokane per the package instructions. (I paid the postage and also had to enclose a check to cover *their* mailing costs.)

A week or so later, my Rabbit was returned to me without any repairs. Their note said that they couldn't find anything wrong with the thing. I phoned Metrokane to complain. They said that the rubber was not covered by the warrantee. I was told to get rubber glue to fix the thing. I checked the warrantee. Nowhere does it say that certain parts are not covered. Finally they agreed to replace it.

The replacement was defective. The Metrokane rep. copped an attitude when I complained, saying that I was probably using it incorrectly. (Remember, I'd owned a Rabbit and had used it for years, so I'm sure I knew how to use it.)

The company wouldn't send another Rabbit and I refused to spend more money to return the second defective product. I'm using a $10 knock-off now. It works every time.

 "Not Quite Expensive Enough" 2007-08-03
By Lynn Hoffman, author:The Short Course in Beer (Philadelphia)
In the quest for a showy, expensive corkscrew worthy of holiday

giving or conspicuous display, this is Screwpull's entry. Now

Screwpull makes one of the most useful cork-pullers known.

It's the plain, two-piece model that nests together for storage.

It's not the fastest way to remove a cork but it's the safest and

the surest for those who are uncertain of their hand strength.

But that practical little model is far too dull an entry if you're

looking to spend a great deal. I wish Screwpull had had the courage

of conviction about consumer fever and made this out of

stainless steel and hardwood and charged,umm...about $250.

"Best wine opener money can buy" 2009-10-12
By E. Silbert (Boston, MA United States)
This is absolutely the best wine opener available. After you use one, you will wonder why you ever opened a bottle any other way. The foil cutter is very easy to operate, and the opener itself will have your bottle opened and the cork ejected from the screw in a matter of seconds. No mess, no trouble.

"Screwpull Revolutionary New Lever Pull" 2009-10-07
By L. Garrett (Los Angeles, CA)
This is by far the best corkscrew I've owned. Other reviews of the same model mention problems if the cork is not removed, but I've not encountered these problems yet, so I give it the full five stars.

The first thing that appeals to me is the beauty of the item. It is like a sculpture. Believe it or not, I love having it just for the pleasure of looking at it when I use it. It even makes me smile when I'm looking for something else and happen upon it by chance.

Second, it has the easiest-to-use action of any corkscrew I've had. I suspect that is because of the length of the lever which probably provides the best leverage avaiable. Its operation is smooth as silk, as is the ejecting action. Also, the manner of placing it on the bottle and squeezing is, in my opinion, easier and more natural than the older "double-wing" method.

If you don't mind spending the money, I recommend this corkscrew without reservation. It is as lovely to use as it is to look at.

 "A Keeper" 2009-01-01
By Coop
This works so well I can't stand it. I've gone through all kinds of openers and none can compare to the ease of use opening the bottle and then ejecting the cork. It all happens in a few smooth moves. I'm right handed. I grab the bottom with my left, place the tool on the cork, stroke to the left, lift off the bottle, stoke to the right. All done and the cork is on the table. Put it back in the case, all zipped up.

 "Expensive But Good" 2008-12-27
By Amazon Todd (LA, CA USA)
This wine opener is expensive, but you probably already know that. If you are reading this review, you might be looking for a top-notch wine opoener. I think this Screwpull is one of the finest wine openers you can get. But, for the money, I don't think the technology of this opener is much different than older Screwpull models or other manufacturers with similar openers. So, my advice: if you have a lot of cash, get this. If you don't, get an older Screwpull model, or better yet, get one of the $10 knock offs that work almost as good. Just my opinion though, of course.

"Easy to operate with any type of "cork"" 2008-12-20
By R. Hays
Extremely smooth and easy operation with all cork material. Even the toughest synthetic corks. We love it.

"Elegant & works well with synthetic corks" 2008-12-01
By SW Utah Shopper (Saint George, UT)
I've owned and used a number of cork pullers over the years but was looking for a new puller that worked well with the new synthetic corks. After some online research and talking with a number of individuals with experience with the LM-400, I gave it a try. About 100 corks later, I'm convinced. It works well with all corks. It works every time. And it's easy for my wife to use - doesn't require a lot of force. I haven't had any problems ejecting corks. (I haven't had anyone try to pull a second cork with an un-ejected cork in the mechanism as others have reported.) As with all good tools, use it the way it's designed and it will serve you well.
